Arcade Fire, a Canadian indie rock band based in Montréal, Quebec, includes core members Win Butler and his wife Régine Chassagne, along with Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, and Jeremy Gara. Their current touring lineup features former mainstay Sarah Neufeld, and multi-instrumentalists Paul Beaubrun, Dan Boeckner, and Eric Heigle, with each album also showcasing contributions from composer and violinist Owen Pallett.
The band was established in 2001 by schoolmates Butler and Josh Deu and rose to prominence with their debut album *Funeral* in 2004, which received widespread critical acclaim. Their follow-up, *Neon Bible*, secured the 2008 Meteor Music Award for Best International Album and the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. Their third release, *The Suburbs*, launched in 2010, not only won critical and commercial success but also garnered the 2011 Grammy for Album of the Year, the Juno Award for Album of the Year, and the Brit Award for Best International Album. In 2013, they released *Reflektor* and composed the score for the film *Her*, earning Oscar nominations for band members Will Butler and Owen Pallett. Their fifth and sixth studio albums, *Everything Now* and *We*, came out in 2017 and 2022, respectively.
Arcade Fire's body of work, which has consistently been nominated for the Best Alternative Music Album Grammy, includes *Funeral*, widely regarded as one of the top albums of the 2000s. They have been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize three times: for *Neon Bible* in 2007, *The Suburbs* in 2011, and *Reflektor* in 2014.
Known for their eclectic sound that blends indie rock, art rock, dance-rock, and baroque pop, Arcade Fire's instrumental repertoire includes guitars, drums, piano, strings, xylophone, keyboards, and more exotic instruments like the hurdy-gurdy, all featured both in the studio and on tour. The band is noted for its dynamic live performances, with members frequently swapping instruments.
